Lymphedema & Swellling Treatment
Lymphedema refers to swelling, usually of your arms or legs, that results from removal or damage to your lymph nodes or lymphatic ducts. This blockage prevents lymph fluid from draining the extremity which can cause fluid buildup and swelling. Potential factors include radiation, surgery, trauma and infection or inflammation. There is also a rare hereditary form of lymphedema.
Universal Physical Therapy has qualified therapists in venous and lymphatic medicine and are able to assess and manage multiple causes of leg swelling. At your consultation, we carefully review your medical history and perform a complete physical exam. While there currently are no adequate permanent surgical solutions to lymphedema, our therapists have several options to help and can manage your care in coordination with your physician.
